How it is to be evaluated by others in simulated teaching..

Being evaluated by other people can make us feel nervous. As during the simulated teaching, i do feel nervous even though had done quite a number of presentations before. This happens because i dont feel comfortable in front of a crowd of people. However, in this class, i do appreciate my friends who evaleated me during my simulated teaching. The comments that they are given really makes me realize my strengths and weaknesses. Some of the comments that i received a lot is complaining about my voice. They said that they can't really hear my voice. So, I have to work hard on it. Overall, being evaluated by my peers really inspire me to do better in the next presentation. It helps me a lot in developing my skills.

How to evaluate others in micro-teaching

During the micro-teaching, we were given the opportunity to evaluate our peers. It is so exciting because I feel like I’m the lecturer. It is a good idea because we will pay attention to the lesson because we need to take note what are the strengths and weaknesses of our peers, then comment them. These comments will help them to recognize their own weaknesses and strengths, thus they can improve themselves. As the evaluator, we should be honest and learn how to comment in a soft way, without hurting their heart. It is not really easy job! Overall, I do enjoy evaluating my peers and I think it is very good if we are given to evaluate our peers everytime there is presentation.

Reflection on the play “Passion”

On 1st April 2008, I watched a play entitled “Passion” at KLPac. At first, I was so excited because I really want to see the one of the judges “So You Think You Can Dance” performs. As a judge, I believe that she can dance very well. At the beginning of the play, it is quite interesting to see them dance altogether. However in the middle of the play, I started to get bored. Even though I like to watch dance performance, I feel like the dances are not my type. I prefer watching dance performance in a reality TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance”. “Passion” is all about tango. There is no variety and maybe this is the reason why I felt a little bit boring. I do expect more actually but it is not like what I had expected. The plot is too simple, as what I understand it is all about misunderstanding in relationship. The guy thought his partner betrayed him with some other guy, but he was wrong. His partner actually chooses a girl which means she is a homosexual.

Reflection on movies

In this semester, I have watched several movies in EDU 3217. The first movie that I watched was ‘Shakespeare Wallah’. For me, this movie is quite boring and I don’t really like this story. The movie that I like the most is ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. I like the hero so much as he has tough body and charming face. He also acts very well. The plot of this story is also interesting and easy for me to understand. I like the relationship between Blanche and Stella. They are very loving and concern each other. Besides, I also like the movie ‘Macbeth’, but not as much as I like ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. This story is quite adventurous but I don’t really understand this story. However, I like the end of this story.

Teiresias

In Oedipus Rex, one of the most important character is Teiresias. This character contributes a lot in the development of the plot of this story. He is the most powerful character as he can see oracles and prophecies. The existence of this character influence a lot to the protagonist of this story, Oedipus. Oedipus think that Teiresias is a liar and try to destroy him by making bad story about him. According to Teiresias, Oedipus married his own mother and killed his father. Oedipus can’t believe his story. However, in the end of this story, he realizes that Teiresias was right. Overall, this character is very important because without Teiresias, the plot of Oedipus won’t be as interesting as it is now.

Blog 4 : Opinion on Live Stage

Opinion on live stage

A few days ago, we have done some live stage performance with our partner. Some of us had picked randomly by our lecturer, Dr. Edwin to perform it in front of our class. It is so exciting because everyone had their own style in acting. We had to act based on the extract Bingo, by Edward Bond. We were free to choose our own style during acting and the audience had to predict where the place was taken and who the characters were. Are they close friends, or foes, or family, or etc.

Blog 3 : Reflection on selected poems

Reflection on selected poems

As I read the poems Macbeth by William Shakespeare, The Four Ages of Man, As You Like It, and Oedipus Rex, I found that there are some differences among them. For example, in Macbeth, the poet perceived his life as an actor. On the other hand, in As You Like It, the poet perceived his life as a man. The Four Ages of Man and Oedipus Rex has the similarity where the poet faced a lot of challenges and conflict in their life. All of the poet has different perception of life.

Blog 2 : Reflection on the handouts

Reflection on the handouts

A few days after we start our class for EDU 3217, we received handouts to guide us for this subject. The handouts are about drama and theatre, and there are many subtopic included. The handouts really help me in understand the subject better. This is because, the handout’s details are arranged and there are spaces provided so that it is easy for the students to write additional information. Besides, we can prepare before entering the class by reading the handouts first.
The handouts are very user friendly because there are using point form and simple sentences. So, it is easier to understand by read the handouts compared to read the book.

Blog 1 : Reflection on ‘Point of View’ exercise

Reflection on ‘Point of View’ exercise

On the first class of Teaching the Language of Drama, I was very shocked that my lecturer, Dr. Edwin gave us as exercise. There were several questions about ‘point of view’. I didn’t expect that he will test us on the first class of this subject. The first thing that I expect he would do is discuss briefly about the course outline, nut I’m totally wrong.
It’s quite difficult for me at first to answer the questions because I haven’t prepared my mind to answer the questions. In addition, I didn’t do any revision regarding that topic. However, after a few minutes, the idea came. I managed to recall some of the information, and thus answer them.
From my opinion, it’s good for the lecturer to give such this exercise, without telling the students first. By this way, the students will always prepare and not study only when the exam is just around the corner.
